When someone is suffering through domestic abuse and that person ultimately takes steps to provide him or herself with protection by way of a protective order, the person who is accused of domestic violence is generally served with an order that requires no contact with the alleged abuse victim for a specified period of time. In Wisconsin, this ‘no-contact’ rule lasts for at least 72 hours.

The world has changed dramatically in recent years with the advancement of forms of technology that until recently were beyond the wildest dreams of the average person. While this technological advancement has made life easier for countless people and in countless ways, technology is also affecting situations that include litigated divorce cases. People have long understood that children who grow up in single-parent homes tend to face challenges and struggles at a higher rate than those who grow up with both parents in the household throughout childhood. However, professional researchers continue to analyze this issue in an effort to pinpoint risk factors that can be used to help families who face these situations. A recent study has apparently shed more light on this issue.

There are few similarities between British and American divorces when it comes to the laws that govern the situation and how the cases are ultimately decided. However, the psychology of the spouses involved is something that many feel are similar, and according to a recent British survey that questioned spouses who had recently completed a divorce, it was the men who tended to suffer for longer periods of time than the women.

When people are contemplating a California divorce and one of the spouses owns a business, there are many situations where California’s community property laws can deem a business a marital asset and therefore award a share of ownership to the other spouse. When this situation arises, it can lead to a terrible financial result for the person who has worked for years to build the business, and in some cases it can lead to a forced sale of the business or even the other spouse being named as the owner of that business.

When people become involved in a California high asset divorce, many of these cases involve a business ownership interest and how it should be valued when it comes time to dissolve the marital estate under California’s community property rules. These business valuations can be extremely complicated, and there are several generally accepted methods that can be used to derive a value for the business at issue so that a specific amount can be applied to the estate before properly division. A recent case involved a controversy and an appeal regarding the appropriate business valuation method to use.

When child custody and child support battles break out between parents, they can quickly become ugly. That’s not abnormal in any way, nor is the possibility that one of the parties will not be present for a proceeding relating to either of these issues. However, when that occurs the party that is not present in court will likely pay the price when a decision is made. Unfortunately for famous MMA fighter Chuck Liddell, that is apparently what occurred recently with his ongoing child support and custody battle.

While most people understand that estimates regarding the divorce rate in the United States range from 36 to 50 percent, most people also assume that when people have been married for many years and reach the age of 50, they are unlikely to ever encounter this process. While that was somewhat true for generations in the United States, statistics show that this is no longer the case. The divorce rate in the United States for people who are over 50 years of age has exploded during the past 20 years.
