Everyone understands that recent years have not been kind to workers in the United States.  Millions of jobs have been lost by employees in nearly every field, and the effects of these job losses are always felt most directly by the families who suddenly must do their best without at least one income.  Unfortunately, the loss of a job by a husband in a marriage apparently leads to a higher likelihood of other results, including a divorce, according to a recently published study.

The study, published in the American Journal of Sociology, tracked thousands of couples during three different periods.  Over time, it was found that when the husband loses his job, his marriage is much more likely to end in divorce.  These divorces that were filed were initiated by both the husbands and the wives, as there was little differentiating between the two with regards to this step.

Several experts have attempted to analyze this data in an effort to explain why such a phenomenon was discovered.  Generally, the experts stated that the societal pressure on the man to be the family ‘bread winner’ remains enormously intense despite the fact that women in the United States have become a much more integral part of the workforce in recent years.  The possibility of a divorce was much lower when the wife lost a job.

Clearly, anyone who loses a job is not suddenly in danger of facing a California divorce.  However, as the study above indicates, this situation can and often does unfold on families.  If you are suddenly facing the end of your marriage for whatever reason, you need to take immediate steps to protect your legal rights and those of your children.

If you are unsure of how to do so, you need to seek the help of San Diego divorce lawyers who have been helping clients move on with their lives after this difficult time for many years.  Contact the law office of James D. Scott today to schedule an initial consultation.
