Every ten years, the United States Census Bureau gets to work on gathering information that the government and the public can use for many different purposes.  The information actually involves many more specifics than simply counting the number of people who live here, which is a common mistake made by those who are asked about the function of the Census Bureau.  Recently, the bureau released more statistics that it discovered during its fact gathering from last year, and one of them involved the American divorce rate.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the divorce rate in the United States declined by a factor of 31 percent between 2007 and 2010.  Most people were aware that the divorce rate was declining, but few people would have predicted a number this large when describing this phenomenon that's apparently growing in scope.  As is almost always the case when a surprising statistic is reported, experts are beginning to offer theories regarding how and why this is happening.

The most obvious explanation that’s being offered by many people is the collapse of the economy.  Many people are remaining in marriages that would otherwise have ended if they were not concerned that pursuing a divorce could lead to financial ruin.  In addition, some are citing the increased need for family stability that’s sought by many American citizens, although that theory would be difficult to evaluate.

Of course, the drop in the divorce rate in the United States does not mean that there are not still married couples who would be well served by simply moving on with their lives along separate paths.  If this includes you, that first step towards beginning this process is almost always the most difficult, but it’s obviously the most necessary.

If you are facing the prospect of ending your marriage, you need to seek the help of San Diego divorce lawyers who have been fighting for the rights of their clients for many years.  Contact the law office of James D. Scott today to schedule an initial consultation.
