British Survey Reveals That Men Suffer More from Divorce Than Women

There are few similarities between British and American divorces when it comes to the laws that govern the situation and how the cases are ultimately decided.  However, the psychology of the spouses involved is something that many feel are similar, and according to a recent British survey that questioned spouses who had recently completed a divorce, it was the men who tended to suffer for longer periods of time than the women.

According to the survey, nearly half, or 48 percent of men described themselves as feeling lonely in the year after a divorce.  Conversely, just over one-third, or 35 percent of women described themselves in the same manner.  In addition, a look at the statistics in the United Kingdom revealed that more than two-thirds of divorces filed in that jurisdiction were initiated by the women in the marriages.

While this survey will not likely lead to any tangible changes or have any strong effects either in the United Kingdom or in the United States, taking a look at the overall attitudes of those involved with divorces can be revealing for many reasons.  Experts who have commented on this survey have pointed out that it’s often the men who bear the financial brunt of a divorce when it comes to dividing a marital estate or even paying for two separate residences for a period of time.

While the survey mentioned above is obviously revealing, it should be noted that divorce is a difficult process for everyone who gets involved in this situation.  However, when a marriage needs to end for whatever reason, delaying the inevitable often only leads to more difficulty down the road for many people and for many reasons.

If you are contemplating ending your marriage, you need to take immediate steps to protect your legal rights, your financial interests and perhaps your ability to raise your children.  You should seek the help of experienced San Diego divorce attorneys who have been helping clients emerge from this difficult process for many years.  Contact the law office of James D. Scott today to schedule an initial consultation.
