When the economy takes a downturn, as the American economy has and since remained in a rut for several years now, it has an effect on just about every aspect of life.  Clearly, the current recession has already had a marked effect on the divorce rate, as several statistical surveys have revealed that this rate has dropped.  However, it appears that the recession is also having an effect on those who plan to get married, at least according to family law attorneys who work in these situations every day.

Specifically, a survey of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers revealed that 73 percent of family law attorneys have seen a rise in the number of prenuptial agreements that have been formulated in recent years.  While there is no way to know what the actual numbers are regarding these statistics, the fact that the vast majority of those family law attorneys who responded mentioned this specific fact is worth noting.

The reasons for couples wanting to put together and execute a prenuptial agreement seem to be because they want to have a bit of added security should the marriage not work out, and they'd also like to avoid the risk of exhausting their assets while they fight over them in a contested, litigated divorce.  The trend is expected to continue for some time until the economy turns around, at which point things could change again.

If you are about to get married or you're already married and you'd like to provide yourself with this same type of security, you need to seek the help of experienced San Diego prenuptial agreement lawyers who have helped many people complete this complicated step.  Contact the law office of James D.
