Anyone who has been married can attest to the fact that there are good times and bad that can arise at any point during a marriage.  One of the most difficult challenges that any married couple can face arises when one of the spouses receives a diabolical medical diagnosis, as this can force a couple to face the possibility that one of them may have a terminal disease.  Perhaps the most serious diagnosis that can be administered is that of cancer, and a recent study has shown that married women may have more to fear than their male counterparts when they learn that they have this disease.

According to a study that was recently performed by the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and entitled, "Gender Disparity in the Rate of Partner Abandonment in Patients with Serious Medical Illness," married women are six times more likely to be served with divorce papers after a diagnosis of cancer than men who receive the same diagnosis.  This study’s results were obviously shocking to many people for many reasons.

While the study did come with certain caveats that included the facts that the duration of these marriages were not specifically measured and that the vast majority of married couples do not pursue a divorce when one of them is diagnosed with cancer, the statistics certainly do not reflect well on husbands in the view of some.
