However, there was one surprise conclusion, and that was that marriages where one spouse places a priority on saving money and the other enjoys spending are generally happier and stronger than marriages where both spouses are spenders.  This was not an expected result because differing attitudes towards the biggest source of marital stress was long seen as a constant source of conflict.
