For centuries, affluent people have sometimes encountered trepidation when they thought of how their children or other inheritance beneficiaries would handle those inherited assets once they were transferred.  A  recent study has revealed that those concerns held by people of a high net worth remain, and as a result new strategies are being promoted and discussed that would help to protect those assets, including in the event of a divorce that's encountered by a beneficiary in the future.

Specifically, Barclay's Wealth recently performed a study that interviewed more than 2,000 people from 20 different countries regarding their level of confidence in their beneficiaries to properly handle their inheritance assets.  In what came as somewhat of a surprise, more than one-third of those respondents said that they were either ambivalent or that they lacked confidence in their beneficiaries to protect the assets that they would someday inherit.  One of the potential concerns that was cited involved the possibility that a beneficiary could lose much of that worth in a divorce.

However, there are strategies that have been recommended to people who are going to leave a substantial amount of assets to beneficiaries.  Specifically, depending on the jurisdiction in where these people live, different forms of trusts can be established that provide for economic support for beneficiaries, and many of these types of trusts will provide a shield from an attack in a divorce case.
