For many years, people have understood that domestic violence has been an enormous problem on many fronts.  Not only are those being abused in constant danger of harm, but anyone else in such a household is also in danger of incurring irreparable psychological harm.  Laws have gotten much tougher in terms of the punishments that could be levied against someone convicted of domestic abuse, but the problem persists.

Now comes word that several governmental entities in San Diego County are beginning with a program that’s called THRIVE that’s meant to work diligently with families involved with domestic violence in an attempt to curb this trend.  THRIVE will begin by choosing 50 families in the county and working with them individually in an attempt to root out the cause of the domestic violence and to make it stop in one way or another.

However, the program is also coming under fire from critics because of the perception that those who are chosen to participate in THRIVE may feel that they do not have a choice but to take part in the program unless they want to risk additional legal problems that could arise as a result of refusing to take part.  Overall, critics also state that the program lacks a particular protocol that could help those who are working with families in this position move forward in a tangible manner, thereby failing to decrease the risk of additional abuse.

While the THRIVE program is being criticized by many professionals, almost anyone would agree that any ideas that help to bring down the number of domestic violence cases in the county would be seen as tremendously positive.  Unless or until that happens, however, people in this position need to take courageous steps to protect their safety and to restore their dignity.

If you are being abused by a spouse or domestic partner, you owe it to yourself and to anyone else in your home to put an end to this abusive cycle.  You can do so by obtaining the help of San Diego domestic violence lawyers who have helped many people put these terrible situations in the past.  Contact the law office of James D.
